David’s Story

Site created on July 2, 2023

For those who don’t know, six months ago David was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer on top of the peripheral polyneuropathy he’s already been living with for the past four and a half years.  It’s been an outrageously difficult journey, to say the least - one we didn’t imagine we would be on in our first year of marriage.  In fact, during his last stay in the hospital (Dec 8 - Jan 11) we almost lost him.  But, as my grandfather used to say, “his room must not be ready yet,” and for that I’m grateful!

Words can’t describe the physical, emotional, mental, and financial toll this has taken on us.  Yet, the Lord has been faithful to comfort us and bring us unexplainable peace during our darkest moments.  David has been incredibly strong through it all and continues to fight with such determination.

We are so grateful for all the love,  support, and prayers we’ve received from our family, friends, and church family, and we ask that you visit this site often for ways to pray and continue to support us in this journey. I’ll do my best to keep y’all updated. Who knows I might even post the multiple journal entries I started and never finished over the past few months. Lol ;)

With love and gratitude,

David & Candace

Journal entry by Candace Martin-Faye

I'm writing today with GREAT NEWS! God has done the impossible - David's cancer is "dormant."🙌 🙏  His latest CT scan shows that the cancer isn't spreading and is currently "inactive." When you're stage IV cancer, you're always stage IV so this isn't referred to as remission - however, it means that for now, he can stop treatments! 🙌 He will get a CT scan every 3 months to monitor the cancer to ensure it remains inactive.

Friends, two months ago this past Sunday, my husband was found unresponsive when the nurse went to do his vitals at 4:30 in the morning. His oxygen was in the 30% while wearing 6 liters of oxygen! If he had been home, I would have woken up to a dead husband! And here we are... two months later and the oncologist referred to his lungs as "BEAUTIFUL!" Only GOD could do that! This is nothing short of a MIRACLE and we give all glory and honor to GOD!!!

Please continue to keep us in your prayers though. David is determined to go back to work part-time but his body has gone through soooo much, pray that he doesn't overdo it. Pray for his neuropathy as it still causes him significant pain. He has a lot of anxiety about the physical obstacles that may get in the way of him doing his job. Meanwhile, anxiety has significant and debilitating effects on his body such as vomiting, increased pain, trouble swallowing, and loss of balance. Please pray for the kind of confidence that could only come from God and for a hedge of protection around his mind to keep the lies of the enemy that try to cause his anxiety away. May he stand firm on the promises of God and may he be encouraged daily that the God who touched his lungs is the God that is with him ALWAYS! 🙏

As for me, I would appreciate your prayers as well. I hold stress in my body and frequently find my whole body tensing - subconsciously. I have to consciously remind myself to relax and breathe throughout the day. As a result, my fibromyalgia has been flaring up. Please pray that my muscles would relax and I would rest in HIM - physically and spiritually! Pray also for employment. I know that God has something for me - pray for direction, discernment, and favor as I'm searching.

Lastly, please pray for wisdom, understanding, and provision as I work through all the bills/statements/insurance stuff. It's so overwhelming!

Thank you for all your prayers, words of encouragement, and financial support - it is SO APPRECIATED!!!

Blessings,
Candace

PS I've uploaded a picture collage to show you the dramatic improvement in David's lungs. When you look at the images the right lung is on the left side and the left lung is on the right side. The gray matter in the lungs is fluid and/or cancer, the black matter in the lung is clear - meaning air can flow through it like it should. It's a MIRACLE!!! 🙌
