Journal

Even though our daughter Tiffany always does such a good job writing and informing everyone on the CaringBridge, I decided to write something in my own words. (Lovely daughter Tiffany is still typing and editing it though.) 🙂

Besides going on 11 days at hospitals in the last 18 days. I’m getting quite bored. Those of you who know me very well know what a challenge it is to be cooped up in a hospital, especially this stretch now at Mayo since physically I’m feeling good, just that there are bad things going on inside. I'm not here to ask for people to feel sorry for me. It is the plan for me at this time.

The reason why I am at Mayo is because when I went in for immunotherapy at St. Francis Friday- my bloodwork showed very high liver numbers, even for me. So no therapy that day. Dr. Larson highly recommended that I go to Mayo for more tests. So, Friday afternoon I did. Now five days later as I write this from the comforts of my hospital bed, this is what we know so far. There is blockage of bile ducts coming out of the liver. Also they found a blood clot not far from my heart. Thursday they will do a procedure to install stints in the ducts. It’s unclear if it’s the cancer, therapy, drugs, or bad luck causing this. They also will take a look to make sure I am not bleeding anymore in my stomach since they will already be down there, as my hemoglobin numbers are still low.

Well since I am starting to think this is weird sharing my health issues with so many people how about we change the subject? How are all of you doing? Yes, I truly care. I want to thank you all for all your kind thoughts and prayers, gestures, food, donations… It has all been so awe inspiring to know our family has so many good people in our lives.

One last comment today as I’m sure I’ve bored you enough- Give your loved ones a hug and tell them you love them. What the heck, why just your loved ones. It’s easy to love ones such as family and friends. Love strangers! Even your enemies! Give them a hug. Well, in some cases you might get punched in the face. If you are healthy, don't complain about going to work on a Monday morning or about your neighbor not controlling their dandelions, or your kids not cleaning their room. Embrace each day as I am. God has given us many gifts. Cherish them, be grateful, enjoy each day to the fullest. God’s blessings to all of you.

PS- Watch for my blog. Since I’ve been at four hospitals in the last year, I’ve decided to rate each one for their food, hospitality, care, kindness, parking, cleanliness, bed comfort, etc.

(Note from Tiffany- He’s not really writing a blog. LOL We have made a list though about what we like best about each hospital. Stay tuned for that update. Please reach out to my dad via text or card. He’s going to be bored out of his mind here soon. Message a family member if you need his phone number or address.)
