Dave’s Story

Site created on June 28, 2017

Welcome to Dave's CaringBridge website. We are going to use this it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Here's a chronology of how this was discovered...Monday, June 19, I had a mole on my back removed.  A biopsy was done.  Saturday, June 24, I was extremely tired and worn out.  I was slurring my speech (no I had not been drinking!).  We went to the ER where they ran a boatload of tests in an effort to determine if I'd had a stroke or not.  They found nothing conclusive.  Monday, June 26, I received a call from my dermatologist.  He said the biopsy of the mole was basically OK, but that they'd found some cells that were not good in the surrounding blood vessel tissue.  He said it was Intravascular Lymphoma.  I looked it up.  Scared the crap out of me.  He told me I needed to see an oncologist.  Tuesday, June 27, we went to visit Dr. Davey Daniel.  He informed us that this type of cancer is a very aggressive type of cancer and that we needed to get some tests done pronto.  So, his staff set about getting a CT scan, bone marrow biopsy, PET scan, MRI of my brain (it's really not empty), and got a port installed on my chest.  Wednesday, June 28 we met with Dr. Daniel again.  He gave us pretty good news, but said that the chemo is still necessary.  The rest is in the update below...

Newest Update

Journal entry by Dave Mietzner

Dave left 11 months ago. He had faithfully posted updates on caring bridge, and I wanted to save them on paper.  I printed off a PDF of his journey…it was 801 pages. Much of it was his updates, more of it was responses from you. You nourished him with encouragement, funny memories, prayers and love.  Never underestimate your kind actions and words. They are powerful…and oh so loved! Make it a great (and powerful) day.
