The grind continues for Dave, which is fitting since his favorite hockey players have always been grinders. He continues working hard in his three hours of PT and OT each day. In particular, he’s been working hard to get accustomed to the motorized wheelchair, and he’s getting quite adept with it. He’s also settled into a strong rhythm and routine during his time here at the rehabilitation hospital, which has been a wonderful thing to see as it’s another sign of him returning to himself.
In terms of occupational therapy, he’s made tremendous progress in learning how to transfer the wheelchair to bed and vice versa. His hand-eye coordination and balance have also improved dramatically. In particular, he’s able to sit upright unaided for pretty much the entirety of his therapy sessions.
Speech therapy ended this week because (drumroll) he’s eating his meals with zero issue. Once we told him that if he could push through, he might not need the feeding tube, that was all the motivation he needed and as such, he hasn’t been fed through the tube for almost the entire week.
The work continues and he gets stronger every day. The hardest part will be helping him continue to dig down for motivation. #schwindstrong #keepclimbing
