Dave’s Story

Site created on November 20, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

I am Dave Massey's daughter in law Elise, married to Drew. I wanted a place where we could connect with Dave's friends and inform them of his condition and progress. On Sept 14th, Dave suffered a stroke that landed him in hospital. The irony was it was on the same day Hurricane Florence hit us in NC. Dave has been through a "hurricane" of his own the last 2+ months. We are taking it day by day.  It's truly been "all hands on deck." Since the original stroke, there has been a heart attack and more bad news than I'd like to share. He is fighting cancer and COPD which is causing restricted oxygen levels. He has been put on blood thinners and we are praying for no more strokes, clots or blood issues. Treatment for the cancer hasn't begun yet as we are still in the "establishing a plan" phase.

There is going to be a tough recovery involved. Yesterday Dave went through a procedure to biopsy his lungs. He is having problems with oxygen levels and overall weakness. During this holiday season, please say many prayers for Dave and Sydney. We are heartbroken that this is where we are at and need all the help and support from his friends.

Please leave Dave a message so he knows he has a team behind him!

In Love and Faith,
Elise

Journal entry by Elise Massey

It has been a very tough few days for Dave and all caring for him. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has read this journal and offered support. All the kind words, meals and prayers have been greatly appreciated. We just pray for peace and comfort at this time. Dave is in the care of hospice nurses, his case worker Khristie and her daughter, and his sons Drew and Drayton. He is surrounded by love. I truly believe these nurses are our angels on earth.

Ask where a man's glory
begins and ends
And say his glory was
he had such friends.
