Dave’s Story

Site created on July 22, 2018

Dear Friends and Family!
About a year ago, Dave was diagnosed with having an epidermoid cranial base tumor (non-cancerous, but Dave's was very large) in his brain. Right away Dave and Lori set out to find the right doctor to remove this tumor. After many months of meeting with 6 different doctors, they found the doctor that was just right for Dave's particular case - Dr. Chandra Sen, Neurosurgeon of NYU Langone. After meeting with him the first time, they felt sure he was the right doctor. His experience, surgical approach and bedside manners were the perfect fit. Lori and Dave will leave for NY on August 20th and Dave will have his surgery on the morning of August 21st. We will not know until the day of the surgery if he will need one or two surgeries.  We will keep this site updated the best we can. I encourage you to visit this site and to send Lori and Dave messages thru this site. Dave and Lori are so thankful for your love and support.  They are extremely grateful. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Journal entry by Karen Zortea

Hello Everyone!
I just wanted to give you an update on Dave's progress. He has been at his hotel in NYC getting physical therapy and has seen Dr. Sen twice since the last journal entry. Overall, Dave is definitely making great progress. He still has some head swelling but the Dr. says that's to be expected. Dave has some blurred vision( and a few other things) that we hope with continued physical therapy will improve. Yesterday Dr. Sen approved Dave to come home and continue physical therapy at home. He is not approved to go to work or drive and its very important for him to "not" over do it! Lori and Dave are so so happy to be coming home and are so grateful for all your love and support during this difficult time. Thank you!!!!!
