Journal entry by Jennifer Gray —
We saw Dave's kidney doctor today. Dave's bloodwork is stable. And his actual gfr is 35. Which isn't great, but much better than his estimated gfr of 22.
A gfr of 35 is technically is stage 3b kidney failure. So stage 1 is. You have kidney disease but your kidneys are working fine (a gfr of 60 or better). Stage 2 = gfr of 50-60. Stage 3 gets split into 2 categories (3a and 3b). 3a is a gfr of 40-50 and 3b is 30-40. Stage 4 is a gfr of 20-30. Stage 5 is end stage kidney failure and a gfr of 20 or below.
At one point Dave's gfr was 5.
So where do we go from here.... doc wants to see him back in a month. If everything stays the same or better, we move to every 3 month appointments.
Wahoo!
