Journal entry by Shannon Abel

Dave is home!!!  He made such good progress that he was able to leave about 10 days earlier than they had thought.

The big milestone needed was being able to get up 3 steps on our back deck in order to get into our house, which thanks to the new handrail he was able to navigate.

We also decided to get a new bed to help the transition.  We got a Sleep Number with a fully adjustable base (head and feet).  It's a fully split king so we can operate our sides independently.  (There are separate bottom sheets but a shared top sheet/blanket.)  This will allow him to raise his head/feet up as needed since it can be a challenge for him to get comfortable sleeping.  As a bonus it seems to really help my back out too!

He still needs a walker to get around, but is pretty self-sufficient.  He was craving a nice steak when he got home and even manned the grill last night!

We've got a little scooter thing to help him navigate outside and take the dogs for a "walk."
