God is Good!

We recently got the best news:  Dave's latest MRI indicated no detectable multiple myeloma in his system! What??? How's that for an early Christmas gift? There's no cure for multiple myeloma, but ...............................................

Since his stem cell transplant over 3 years ago, Dave has been on twice monthly chemo infusions for maintenance of multiple myeloma. He has responded well, has great blood work and a "mostly" good attitude. Neuropathy in his feet, legs, hands, is a constant side effect of the chemo. Plus the 2 week cycle of chemo is getting to him.

Dave's oncologist has researched and feels he is a good candidate for an immunotherapy drug as a new maintenance program. The proposed drug is being well tolerated world-wide with great results. He'll get a shot in his tummy every 8 weeks that would train his good cells to attack and destroy the bad cells. Medical science is  amazing! If he responds well and is in as good a condition after 2 years as he is now, they will stop the treatment. What??? Dave says he'll be 80 by then and have other issues.

This means no more chemo infusions. Hopefully the new drug allows his damaged nerves to repair and give him feeling in his hands and feet. Maintenance 1x/8 weeks will be a blessing. We won't know what to do with all the freed up time.

Did I mention God is Good!?

Dave's first injection is scheduled for December 28. They will keep him there 5-6 hours to monitor his reactions. He/we are excited but apprehensive. Dec. 29 will be very telling.

As always we appreciate your cares, prayers, support and love.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
