Darren’s Story

Site created on April 12, 2020

Welcome to our Caring Bridge site.  We have created this page to keep friends and family updated.

Darren left the house on Tuesday, April 7th on his skateboard at about 5:15 pm.  He was called home for dinner and the ER at Regions answered and stated he had serious head trauma.   A good samaritan called 9-1-1.   We were able to get the timeline of what happened, but don't know exactly what happened.

Darren is the kind of kid that would do anything, for anyone, loves school, especially  Engineering and Robotics.   Has worked at McDonald's for the past year.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Holly Smith

This will be my last update on Darren.  Thank you everyone, the love,  support and  donations for Darren has been amazing.    He truly is a miracle.

Darren had his one year follow up, he is doing amazing, scoring average to above average on his tests.   He did score below average on response time with writing.  He was left handed before the accident and is now right handed.  He has a follow up eye appointment in July and a MRI in March of 2022.  If the MRI is good, he will be completed with everything.

He loves to hang out with Scooby.  That was his motivation when he was in the hospital, was to get home to Scoobs.

He is doing very well with school receiving A's and B's.  He is currently working 25 to 30 hours a week and is also starting to drive again.

We can't say Thank You enough.

Love, Paul, Holly, Kayla, Darren and Scoobs ❤❤
