Darrell’s Story

Site created on February 24, 2018

As many of you know, Darrell was diagnosed on February 5, 2018 with a Glioblastoma - an aggressive malignant brain tumor.

He was referred to the Mayo Clinic and was scheduled for surgery on his birthday, February 23rd.

After getting to the hospital at 5:30am, he was in surgery until 4:30pm when we were reunited in the ICU. We are happy to report that the neurosurgeon was able to remove

90% of the tumor. A few hours later he was already joking and asking for cake.

As our neurosurgeon said - it’s a marathon, not a sprint but we’ve started the race and are ready to battle!

Journal entry by Becky Ochsner

A friendly smile, a casual touch, these are the things that mean so much. To know you are with us in our time of sorrow, sharing our prayer today and tomorrow. God gives us comfort in the form of good friends. May His peace be with you. His love never ends.

We cannot begin to thank you all for your unending support: prayers, words of encouragement along the way, gifts of food, friendly visits, stories shared, hugs, tears, laughter. We will never forget your generosity in our time of need.

Though we shed many tears today, we cherished sharing many wonderful memories of Darrell together. Thank you to those who were able to share the day with us.
