Dad received the gift of life on October 31, 2005 from his angel Kassie. Over the past 18 years he has been able to share in weddings, birthdays, family trips and became the best Grandpa to Luke. He and Mom will celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary in November and he remains very active in their church community at Holy Trinity. For nearly two decades he has dedicated his life to spreading the word about life-saving organ donation through his role as a transplant patient educator at University Hospital in San Antonio and as Committee Chair for Patient Affairs at United Network for Organ Sharing.
Despite meticulously managing his health (I don't think he has missed his medication times by more than 5 minutes, ever!) his disease has slowly returned and damaged his liver. After many rounds of testing he was notified that he is eligible for a 2nd liver transplant. He was placed on the liver transplant wait list on his birthday, August 23rd, and is now awaiting a match.
God willing, once he receives a call of a match he will have one hour to report to University Hospital where multiple surgeons will be waiting to provide a 2nd miracle for him and our family. The surgery is expected to take 10-16 hours and will be more complicated than the first due to previous procedures. We will post updates to this page, and thank you in advance for all of your prayers.
