Journal entry by Jamie Donovan, daughter —
My mom was moved to a transitional unit with Courage Kenny a few weeks ago. We have a planned discharge date and are starting to make plans so we are able to bring her home when she is ready. We are still finding it very hard to communicate with her due to her brain injury. The last scan of her brain did show physical change to the frontal lobe of her brain. The frontal lobe is responsible for higher cognitive functions such as memory, emotions, impulse control, problem solving, social interaction, and motor function. the nurses said she talks about the grandkids often, loves listening to her music on her tablet, she works on her independent cares, exercises and has PT and OT daily. She is staying positive and keeps working hard to get home as soon as she can.
Tomorrow she will have a follow-up appt with the neurologist that did her spinal surgery to see if she can stop wearing the brace. It has been easier to get her to wear it as they made more adjustments. She is excited for it to go so she can continue progressing with her therapies.
We are still keeping phone calls and visits to immediate family due to her brain injury. Once she is home and settled she will be ready for family and friends to reach out and visit. Thank you for your patience.
