Journal

Hello loved ones,

I wanted to post two days ago, but as usual my OCD self got sidetracked and overwhelmed, so at least I’m here now!

This post actually has only some to do with Darby Sue, and mostly to do with family.

Last week my dads Aunt Jo, who I also just knew as my Aunt Jo went to be with the Lord. Now, for those that don’t know Aunt Jo, she was one of the most amazing women - she was always joyful and a true servant of the Lord, but always funny and down to earth. I have so many fond memories of stopping in Grottoes, VA growing up whenever we would travel and be near (which was actually quite often).

Fast forward to the last few years, where my parents relocated to Roanoke (Salem) Virginia, which happens to be MUCH closer to Grottoes. In addition to the move, one of Aunt Jo’s granddaughters, Kaylin, attended Roanoke College where dad works. In those days it all seemed like a happy coincidence as mom and dad developed a fun loving relationship with Kaylin, which sparked a new found closer relationship with dads cousin Jackie and her husband, Greg. Even I was able to enjoy these new relationships and find delight in rekindling family relationships with loved ones.

I know, I’m beginning to just tell a story that makes no sense...I promise there is a point.

In light of the COVID nightmare, Aunt Jo was laid to rest with a small outside burial ceremony. I was grateful to attend with my parents, whom I hadn’t been able to see since January. Those 36 hours spent with my mom (and dad) were just what my soul needed. Even better, was the overwhelming happiness others had when they got to see my mom, too.

I do believe God has plans for all of us, even when they don’t make sense and we question them. I do believe God placed my parents in Virginia for a reason. The support my dad received from Roanoke College was tremendous. The support our Virginia family has offered has been staggering.

Even more important is how my mom has said even through all of the hell shes been through, she rejoices that she’s gotten closer to her loved ones. We so often get wrapped up in our own lives that we forget about our family members and their lives. I’m just here to remind us all to remember the importance of our loved ones, even when we’re not faced with tragedy or sadness.

I am so very grateful for all of you! I am so thankful for the love you have shown not just my mother, but our entire family. We are blessed to have such amazing family and friends.

I am sure another update will come early next week, as mom and dad are coming to visit! Their granddaughters are counting down the minutes as they have never gone this long without being with them.

Be safe everyone, and as Aunt Jo would say, “all is well.”

❤️Sarah Beth
