Dan’s Story

Site created on May 7, 2022

On April 1, 2022, Dan was admitted to M Health Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, MN,  diagnosed with End-Stage Liver Disease and Hepato-Renal Syndrome. He spent the majority of the month of April and most of May learning about his diagnoses, receiving treatments, and grappling with a terminal prognosis. On May 17th, he went into hospice care at a long-term care facility. Dan, his children, and loved ones value your prayers, thoughts, and good wishes as he moves forward in the next step of this journey. Please keep checking back for updates.

Journal entry by Rachel McCorry

Dan continues to do well in hospice with monitoring and medication for his symptoms. He has lost a large amount of weight and is, overall, feeling better than when we went in to the hospital 5 1/2 months ago. He still has the Pleurx drain in place to remove fluid from his abdomen three times a week and does battle with significant fatigue at times. Over the last few months he has had many visitors from near and far and loves seeing his children on a weekly basis. He almost always has the Great British Bake-Off on tv and enjoys Thursday night virtual Dungeons and Dragons games. While his condition is still terminal, Dan's outlook and attitude have remained bright and cheerful. Both facility and hospice staff have commented many times on how Dan's spirit of resilience and hope brings great joy to everyone he encounters.
