Journal entry by wendy manning

Hello Everyone!
I—Dan—finally had enough energy to read all your wonderful posts and make a post myself!  First, the shorts I was wearing in the photo posted on 28 June are super sporty and can, like the ones I was wearing on the night of the incident, be slipped right off like a popsicle wrapper and replaced with an equally hip hospital gown!  I think I got them at Walmart for about a Hamilton if you are in the market for fashionable clothes.

The night of the procedure (and even much of the day after) is a bit of a blur.  Now I wake up and wonder whether this really happened.  But reality shows its face when I see the nasty bruises on my arms from all the needles.  Wendy surely wishes that those bruises also reminded me to take my meds!

I just wanted to let you all know that Wendy and I very much appreciate all the good wishes you sent our way!  I want to thank especially Mary and Emma for being so good to us and for looking after Blasko while I was in the hospital.  Pam, I loved the flowers (and so did everyone else who saw them).  Steve, I will follow that link you sent me (an hour or two) before I departed for the hospital and purchase some of that delicious bacon jam we enjoyed that very night, plus some others that look to be equally fantastic!  (For those of you who are suddenly worried, my cholesterol is good, and you can be assured that I will have a chat with my doctor before I place the order.)  Thanks to all the visitors—Mom, Dad, Sue, Doug, Kevin, Denise, Mary, Steve, Vicki and Laurie—and especially to Wendy, who only left my side when I told her that she stunk just about as much as I did and, unlike me, really had no excuse not to shower!  Thanks to sister Sue for driving with us back to Ohio and for helping us get settled.  Thanks also to BG friends, especially Kelly, for looking after things over the past week and for the good food!  I also appreciate having some oversight by informed medical friends, Greg and Lisa, and Laurie’s able patient advocacy (twitter, if unlike me you know how, lreedsbooks). Lastly, I want to thank John for setting up the Caring Bridge website for us.  It was wonderful to see all your posts.  Wendy and I are blessed with good family and friends!

It feels good to be back home.  Wendy and I meet with our local cardiologist tomorrow …  I will let you know the news.  Cheers—Dan.
