On Saturday, October 10th, Dan and his family went to a pumpkin patch to take family pictures and enjoy the day together. They were all seated at a picnic table in the gazebo area. The gazebo is placed on top of a concrete slab. As the family started to move onto the next event at the pumpkin patch, Dan stepped off of the cement slab and felt a pop, first in one leg, then in the other leg. Dan then fell to the ground. He was unable to bear any weight on either leg. Dan was taken to a nearby emergency room where some testing was done. He was then transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Watertown, SD, where it was determined that Dan had ruptured the quad tendons in both of his legs. Dan had surgery on October 11th. The surgery involved opening up both knees, putting pins in each knee cap, pulling the quad muscles and attaching them to the pins. Dan will be in leg braces for at least six weeks. He will not be able to bend his legs at least for the first two weeks. Dan spent five days in the Watertown hospital and was in a skilled nursing facility for rehab for a few weeks. He was able to go home on November 5th. His doctors are estimating three - six months for recovery or longer. Unfortunately, Dan does not have long-term disability insurance. Please keep him in your prayers during this difficult time.
