Journal

Hi!! Welcome to the last day of May Gray, as we step into June Gloom tomorrow. But who cares, the ocean is magnificent with or without the sun!! We have now been full time residents of Laguna Beach since March 28 and loving every minute of it! We were so sad to leave Brookside after 33+ years, but our fabulous neighbors will never be rid of us! We’ve created an additional ‘framily’ here at Laguna Lido.

Dan is now 7 months and 4 days old. Since I last updated you guys, he has received an additional 2 million donor cells which just happened back at Jacobs on 5/29. The procedure is called a Donor Lymphocyte Infusion (DLI) and it’s used to boost his chimerism numbers (the t-cells). On his own, he reached 83% which left a 17% chance of relapse. The anticipated results from the extra cells is to bring his chimerisms up to 100%. Before the infusion, Mulroney requested another biopsy to see if relapse had occurred and thankfully, his marrow was clean!!!!! Which, by the way is now 100% donor marrow AND his blood type is no longer A+; he took on the donor’s blood type of O+.

Speaking of the donor, she and Dan have been writing letters to each other which are screened thru the transplant coordinators as to not reveal too much info on one another till a year has passed. She enlists the help of a translator and is taking English lessons so that we can communicate better when we meet. She always starts her letters with…..Dear Twin. We owe her so much and could never repay her kindness.

Other than that, we’re just living life like everyone else…….but with a mask on until Dan’s immune system improves. A big step forward was he started his newborn series of vaccines last week! As you know, the chemo eradicted his system including every vaccine he’s ever had in his life.

And finally, we get to go see our grandtwins next week! It’s been almost a year since we’ve been able to be with them but we’re so grateful for FaceTime!  Then, Brendan, McKenna and the twins will come here at the end of July and overlap Jared’s visit in August! It’ll be amazing!!

Thank you again and again and again for the love, support and visits. We’re looking forward to creating many more memories with all of you!
