Dan’s Story

Site created on July 18, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Dan Sobczynski.  As news of his cancer diagnosis spreads, we have been inundated with love from thoughtful family and friends far and wide. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to return every call, text, or message, but we are so grateful for your love and support. We are using this site to keep everyone updated in one place.

Background: Dan started having stomach and digestive discomfort in June. When it didn't improve with diet changes, an upper GI endoscopy revealed a tumor at the base of his esophagus with a nearby ulcerated tumor in his stomach.  A biopsy has confirmed cancer cells in the esophagus, stomach sphincter, and stomach lining.  At this time, his diet has been highly restrictive to minimize discomfort and pain.

This week, Dan will have a PET scan followed by an endoscopic ultrasound next week to determine exactly what type and stage of cancer he will be fighting. We do not yet have a treatment plan identified and have been told he can likely anticipate some combination of chemotherapy to shrink the nodule prior to surgery.

We appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Margie Sobczynski

We are so excited to update you that today was Dan's last treatment!!! He has remained cancer free. Because of his increased reactions to the immunotherapy, there is no reason to continue. They have no research to know if it's too early to stop or any reason to continue. Dan is 1 in 1,000 to reach this point. But we already knew THAT! They will continue to do the signatory test every 2 weeks for some time. They will PET scan and endoscopy in two months and then every 4 months after that. The immunotherapy will remain in his system for around a year and hopefully, his symptoms from this treatment will diminish over this time. Our family couldn't be happier for Dan and looking forward to his continued healing!

Thank you, thank you for all your love, support and prayers!! We could not have made this journey without you. May God bless all of you and your families!
