Journal entry by Lana Walker —
June 1st was a busy day for Dan. He had a biopsy and a temporary heart pump called an Impella implanted.
The biopsy came back confirming the Multiple Myeloma diagnosis. He started treatment for the cancer today. The oncologist says that this form of cancer is very treatable. The prognosis looks like it is good enough to continue with the permanent heart pump but we will need to see how the next few days go.
He is on dialysis to support his kidneys for at least a few days, perhaps longer. The cancer and the heart failure are both very hard on the kidneys. The hope is that by supporting the kidneys while starting cancer treatment that the damage to the kidneys can be minimized.
Dan remains in ICU. Things are complicated and scary but we continue to have hope for a path to enable Dan get well enough to come home from the hospital to continue his healing process.
Thank you all for your kind words. We read them all and it means the world to both of us. I will update next week.
