Danny’s Story

Site created on January 16, 2019

We found out Jan 3rd that Danny has two cancerous tumors on his pancreas. One on the head and one on the tail. The one on the head has encapsulated a blood vessel that feeds blood to the liver and lower bowels - and both pressing on his stomach and intestine causing blockage between the stomach and the lower intestine. He has undergone 2 endoscopies and the last one with ultrasound to verify all information and test results from biopsies. Neither tumor is operable at this point. Today (1/16) he is undergoing surgery in Fargo at Sanford to connect the stomach directly to the intestine to bypass the tumor. Inside that connection they will also place a tube in the case they may need for future use. This connection will at least allow him to eat, as the opening that is there has only allowed fluids to pass through in the past few weeks. Additionally, they are attaching a feeding tube directly to his lower intestine to allow nutrients to be supplied sone can under go chemotherapy. He will begin aggressive chemotherapy the end of January.

Journal entry by Diane Schatz

Danny passed on June 27th after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer.  For a guy who had 6 weeks to 6 months to live, he broke the record and was able to survive for 3 1/2 years.  We held the service on July 6th and can be viewed live on www.westfuneralhome.com directly below his obituary for anyone caring to do so.  Thanks so much for all prayers and condolences.  He will be forever missed and loved.
