Newest Update

Journal entry by Jen McCaughan

Home from Kalispell! Dan started his next stage of treatment today. St. Andrew has no school today and I have work off so it was Danny, Katy, and me. Treatment was this morning  (Monday) so we left Helena yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday was Easter and was a fun day that started with an Easter Egg hunt follwed by Mass and ended with Chinese takeout  followed by TV in bed in Kalispell. We’ll have our Easter dinner later this week! 😂

Today, Dan’s appt went great despite him feeling a little out of sorts. This phase is IV chemo every 10 days with doses that ramp up each time. His blood cell counts dictate whether he’s strong enough for chemo each time so despite blood draws in Helena before his appointments, there’s always the slight chance that if the numbers are not good on arrival that we’ll be sent home. Ack! We’ll be crossing our fingers each time! Numbers were super today though, so he got his meds, as planned! 👍

Katy is such a goofy, positive influence! Of course, we made a trip over to the Sunshine Factory after treatment and amazingly…there was ACTUAL sunshine! The kids played outside and it was so good to watch them play Lava Monster and create safe “bases” and throw a ball around!

When we left, Dan said “Bye, Logan hospital! Thanks for taking care of me!” Haha! I know he’s being silly, but I’m just so amazed at how little resentment or frustration he has! He’s nervous each time he gets chemo but he still hops in the car without a fight and says “thank you” when he’s done! He’s absolutely 9 years old and a real goober sometimes but he’s taking this in stride and we’re so proud!

I’m pooped. Bed time!
Xoxo
