Journal

It was one year ago today that my world was turned upside down with a breast cancer diagnosis. Biopsies, CT scans, MRIs, countless lab draws, port placement, genetic testing, 6 rounds of hard chemo, a double mastectomy, 25 radiation treatments, 8 of 14 rounds of more chemo, but more than all of that, this last year has been full of blessings. Today I am no evidence of disease and am grateful for everyday God gives me. My relationships with my family, friends and God are stronger than ever. I still have 6 more chemo treatments left, at least one reconstructive surgery and a hysterectomy ahead of me, but it’s ok because I know God’s got me.

This past year was hard, but it could have been so much harder without the outpouring of support that Brad and I have received. From friends and family that refused to let me be the only bald one, to all those that provided a listening ear, words of encouragement and prayers  when I needed it the most, to those who provided a meal or childcare, I am forever indebted to you. With eyes filled with tears of heartfelt gratitude, thank you!

To Brad, thank you for being my rock. I couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else. To my 3 beautiful girls, you are my light. Thank you for the best medicine of smiles, hugs and kisses on the hardest days.

To my pink sisters, Lynn and everybody I have met at the Itasca County Breast Cancer Support Group month after month, thank you for sharing your story and being willing to listen to mine. While none of us ever wanted to be apart of the group, I’m so glad we have each other because nobody understands the struggles better than someone who has fought the fight.

And to anyone going through hard stuff, have hope and don’t let it get the best of you. God’s got you. There’s nothing he can’t do.
