Journal

Well, Dad has been home, at the Cabin on Big Lake, for over 15 days now. Today he had his first in-person appointment with Dr. Alassas and Susan (Sam) Vetto, ARNP. Dad let us know that they removed ALL THREE DRAINS today! That's really great to not have those things dangling on his side and maneuvering them (or Colette having to drain them and make sure they are sterile at the entry point).

Over the last couple of weeks he has had a nurse come visit every day plus physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) every week. He is getting stronger and doing more things on his own including making his own food which he enjoys.

Now that the drains have been removed he will need to watch out for possible fever symptoms. He is also learning to maintain his insulin levels and checking his glucose multiple times per day. This may be a new way of life for him going forward or it may mellow out and no longer have to have insulin shots.

The responsibility of care is going to be handed over to his primary care physician (PCP) in Burlington. His first visit with his regular doctor will be later this week. There will still be follow-up visits with Dr. Alassas and Sam, but he's doing well enough for his Burlington doctor to handle the rest of care going forward.

There may be another journal update, but it could be months away. We are all trying to settle back into a more "normal" life, and for now, not living on the major medical roller coaster. Thank you all for your love, support, prayers and friendship and don't be a stranger!

xoxo, Sarah
