Daniel ’s Story
Site created on November 27, 2019
Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. As most of you know by now Daniel has been diagnosed with AML leukemia. Last couple of months he has been feeling more tired than normal and the last month has had a cough. The last couple weeks he felt so bad that he started on antibiotics and called in sick to both jobs which is something very unusual for him. Last Saturday 11/23/19 he complained after taking a few steps that he was so short of breath and he had horrible leg cramping. We thought flu and maybe blood clots. We decided to go to the Lake Forest ER and they quickly found signs of leukemia in his blood work. He was then transported to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where he is currently and will be there seeking treatment and recovery for at least the next month. Tuesday 11/26 he had surgery to insert a device to control the blood clots in his legs from forming anymore clots in his lungs. He also had a device (Hickman line) put in his chest for chemo and to administer all the medicine and for blood tests. He started his first round of chemo Wednesday (11/27/19) and will be given the next step of this chemo regimen tomorrow. They will continue to monitor him over the next month to determine the next steps for him. He is doing well and in good spirits. The doctors say that the chemo can make him feel pretty bad. He is high risk of infection. If visiting please know he cannot be around anyone sick. He cannot have any live plants or flowers. Also there are food restrictions. Daniel is typically a very healthy person and is in good shape which will help his fight! We will continue to update as new news is available.
Vítejte na stránkách CaringBridge. Díky nim bude mít rodina a přátelé aktualizované informace. Naopak.
Happy Sunday! Just a quick update on Daniel. He has been out of the hospital for a little over a week now. Initially he was very weak and tired but he has gained strength and energy. His muscles have atrophied but with time he will regain the muscle strength. He’s back to being his bubbly self. He has been staying with me and I’ve enjoyed his company. His sister has arrived to be with him. She will get tested for Covid soon and If she tests negative they will be able to be together. He is so appreciative of all the support, well wishes and prayers!
