Good morning! Daniel has been learning to walk with a prosthetic here in Florida! His first appointment, they made a cast of his leg, and made a liner to fit. The second appointment, they made a cast with the liner on, and made a test socket.

When putting on a prosthesis, there is a rubber liner that goes on the leg first, then different size socks to add cushion, and then the socket. There is another rubbery liner that goes over the socket to help keep the socket on. The socket is connected to a metal rod which is connected to a foot. When they are making sockets, they have test sockets made out of hard plastic that they can alter to get the fit just right. Once they have a good fit, they will make a final socket out of carbon fiber to make his leg really light.

Last week, they made three test sockets, and he has been walking on one over the weekend. He doesn't have pain in his socket, but he has pain where the femur break was. When we get back home, he will schedule an appointment with the orthopedic doctor to get some scans done to make sure there isn't any issues with the bone.

I attached a video link of Daniel walking on his test leg. :)
