Here is an update on our Dear friend
Daniel. He underwent a complicated open heart surgical repair for an Aortic Aneurysm on May 21st. Thankfully, he has a wonderfully experienced and attentive surgeon down at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Daniel came through the surgery well after nearly 8 hrs of working to resect his upper aorta and then ensure there was no leakage/bleeding from the joined areas. The surgeon also had to replace the heart valve that exits into the aorta and used a special technique to stop Daniel's Arhymia. They were able to remove his breathing tube overnight/early morning May 22nd--which made him MUCH more comfortable!! Amy and I spoke at about 3:30am and she had been able to give him some ice chips to ease his sore throat. She said it was SO good to hear him speak!
Yesterday, Daniel was having some issues with pain control. A lot of nausea and some vomiting. Thankfully, they got that worked out though. He was able to sit in the bedside chair for 40 mins while Amy was with him. They also had him up and walking in the hall briefly (assisted of course). Last night he was FINALLY able to get some restful sleep.
Daniel remains in the cardiac ICU for now.
Please keep both Daniel and his wife, Amy, in your prayers. We know that the Lord doesn't give us more than we can handle--with HIS HELP! He is also the Great Physician, the Balm of Gilead that salves our bodies AND spirits. Please pray for peace in the storm, encouragement, strength and perseverance as they go through this lengthy recovery process together.
