Journal entry by VANESSA Johanning —
Good evening, everyone. A couple of weeks ago, Daniel was having severe abdominal pain and was becoming very dehydrated. When on chemo, he has his typical "bad days" that follow treatment, but this was much more intense and had been the worst to date. So he decided to go in for a visit with his oncologist and they admitted him into the hospital. He had lost over 10 lbs in a week, 10lbs that he definitely couldn't afford to lose. After many tests, everything came back clear. The chemo was getting to be too much for his body, he was essentially shutting down. He stayed at the hospital for a couple of days to get fluids and then came home. He had a visit with his oncologist a couple of days ago and they decided he needs a little more time to recuperate. His ankles became severely swollen and his oncologist believes it is due to a combination of malnutrition and his newly discovered hypothyroidism. They will decide at his next visit how they will proceed with his remaining chemo treatments. Thank you all for your continued strength and love, it means the world to us.
