Journal entry by Heather Glasser

Today marks 3 weeks home for Dan. He has improved so much and seems to be getting much better as each day goes by. However yesterday we had a first real scare since he has been home. After a shower Dan told me that he felt like he needed to move from the bathroom because he was panicked. He attempted to get up a time or two and said that he felt dizzy. We decided to get him to the bedroom to escape the heat and sit somewhere comfortable. He stopped a few times on the way and I was holding him from behind, when we got to the entrance of the bathroom he fell to his side straight to the ground. He came to really quickly and because I had ahold of him he didn’t fall hard. He was able to answer a few questions but then told me he could only see black and his speech stopped. We call 911 immediately and the firefighters were first on the scene and determined image was having heart block and experiencing a stroke. The paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital with the boys and I close behind. When I was able to get back and see him he was already much better, his facial functions seemed very normal and so was his speech. After many tests on his brain and heart they found no evidence of a full stroke and said that he had a TIA or mini stroke, and likely because of his recent heart surgery.
So far today he has felt pretty good, other than anxiety over it. We have follow ups this week with Nephrology, Cardiac Surgery and Infectious Disease. We also are meeting with an allergist to get him micro-dosed on antibiotics if all goes well there he should be able to stop receiving antibiotic infusions daily and switch to pill form.
Keep the prayers coming. We are so appreciative of every bit of help and support from everyone.
