Journey update: I asked Dana to put the last 22 months of cancer journey in her words. More from me later because I’m in tears.
“When I met with the Oncologist 2 years ago, He told me I had Stage 4 Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I felt numb!! As a Nurse, I thought to myself I'm strong and I will get better and go right back to work. What was I thinking? I know nothing about Oncology or what I was in for. I'm the patient now and have to trust the Dr. and whole medical team. I also had to have Faith with my mighty Lord. Being in the hospital for 5 days at a time for 4 months and having the chemo running into my body 24 hours/day took a big toll on my body. The Dr. at one point said we can't do the IV Chemo anymore and started the oral medications. I'm not sure I will ever eat a hospital meal again. After awhile everything smells and tastes like Chemo. Now as I enter the Journey of Remission, I need to Thank my support team for all the Prayers. I need to thank my family, ministers, my husband, Jeff, and my children Kalee, Patti, Scott, Jaidon, and Haven. God is Good!”
I warned you.
Today was Dana’s 24th and final immune system chemo IV infusion. She RANG the bell. Loud and long! Chemo pill Revlimed prescribed indefinitely to keep this disease in check. Next appointment January of 2020.
Shout out to Dr. Kelly. He insists we call him by his first name. Such a wonderfully educated, compassionate, laid back, humble man, father, Doctor. The Avera cancer and medical community won the World Series and Super Bowl by getting him on board. Love him!! Thank you to Dana’s medical team and the comfort of the Prairie Center.
For everything there is a season ... A time to heal. A time to build up. A time to weep. A time to laugh. A time to embrace. A time to keep silent. A time to speak. And a time to love. ...
I’ve been so inspired by Dana’s humbleness, quiet courage, strength, and faith.
Sister dear, I’m honored to be on this indefinite journey with you. 💚 Faith above Fear
