Danae’s Story

Site created on July 25, 2021

Danae Adele Shanabarger-Scheks (37) was called home to the Lord February 10th 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 12, 1986, she is the daughter of Doreen Wymer and the late David E. Shanabarger. Danae is preceded in death by sister; Jenna Shanabarger and stepfather; Alan Wymer.

Danae graduated from Marlington High School in 2004 and went on to pursue a career in Criminal Justice at the University of Akron. Danae’s work within the Summit County Court systems domestic violence unit is a small window into her great achievements. Her legacy lives on through her work as a probation officer as well as her love for sharing her second passion, Mary Kay. Her motto “Sharing is Caring” truly represents how Danae lived her life. Her warm personality and generous heart made her an instant favorite among all who knew her.

Danae was a follower of the Lord and kept her constant faith throughout her battle with cancer. She would never miss an opportunity to share the Lord with everyone and believed wholeheartedly in His plan.

Danae was a strong woman whose talents were many, but her ability to enjoy life and bring people together was her greatest quality. She made friends no matter where she was and had a unique ability to make people feel right at home. Danae loved camping, family gatherings, and traveling to places across the country to experience all the wonders life had to offer.

Danae’s greatest loves were her husband and her three children. She was thankful every day for their presence in her life and will continue to live through them. Her voice and memory will never be forgotten.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Aaron Scheks; three children Johnny, Berkley, and Finley; mother Doreen Wymer; in-laws Reinhold and Cynthia Scheks; siblings Jason (Amanda), David (Reagan) and Darah (Bret) Shanabarger, Erika (Jeff) Tallman, Chris (Blair) Scheks; grandmother Marie Bone, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, endless friends, and extended family.

The family would also like to express their deepest appreciation for the wonderful care given by the doctors, nurses, and staff at Aultman Hospital, The James Cancer Hospital, and Aultman Hospice Compassionate Care Center.

Please join us for a celebration of life ceremony to be held Saturday March 16th, 11:00 am at the First Christian Church in Canton at 6900 Market Ave N, Canton, OH 44721. Journal entry by Carrie Palmer

Danae spent quite a bit of time in hospitals during July and August. She was in Aultman Hospital for a week in July, immediately followed by a week at OSU Hospital. Then, she had major surgery performed by a team of doctors on 8/18/23 at OSU Hospital which required another week in the hospital. She has been home a little over a week and has a long road of recovery. She will also be starting chemo and radiation again soon. The Meal Train continues to be a godsend for the Scheks family, so additional dates have been added. Please sign up to provide a meal as it is greatly appreciated!
