Dale’s Story

Site created on June 19, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  Back story: I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2012.  After surgeries, including a cystectomy, I have had 10 years of relatively good health and it looked like we beat the cancer.  Then in early 2022, I started not feeling 100% and this eventually led to getting a CT scan and the discovery that my cancer had returned.  It showed up in several abdominal lymph nodes and a single spot on my liver.  My urothelial carcinoma (bladder cancer) has metastasized.  My oncologist ordered a PET scan (which confirmed the CT scan results but in more detail).  He then prescribed immunotherapy drug treatments with Keytruda.  The first infusion was on March 8, 2022.  I received an infusion every 6 weeks.  The plan was to see if this treatment would shrink the cancerous lesions.  (Keytruda typically has a 4 - 6 month window before one can expect to see the results). However, it became clear that Keytruda was not effective for me. So in September 2022, I was given a different and relatively new treatment: PADCEV (a monoclonal antibody).

In all of this, I am trusting God for his strength to persevere and if He chooses to heal me through PADCEV, another treatment, or a miracle I will be forever grateful.  If He does not, my faith will remain in my loving Father who knows the number of our days.
