Dale’s Story

Site created on July 21, 2023

Dale started having hunger pains around Memorial Day. He made an appointment with his primary care doctor the middle of June. They did an ultrasound and CT scan of his abdomen the end of June. This imagery showed 3 masses spread throughout the pancreas. After biopsy and meeting with an oncologist, these masses were diagnosed as stage III pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Further imaging, showed that the cancer has not metastasized to any other organs. We are thanking the Lord for this. This is going to be a long hard battle that team Dale will be fighting on their knees. We would appreciate if everyone joined alongside. 🙏🏼

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you,  plans to give you hope and a future.”

Follow up appointments at Mayo today were good. We started the morning with the diabetes/nutrition doctor. Dad will probably start an InPen for his insulin. This pen will allow him to give himself ½ units of insulin if he doesn’t need the whole unit. Dad’s Dexcom patch, that he wears on his arm, has been helping with monitoring his blood sugars and it has been easier than pricking himself in the finger.

Dad had an ultrasound paracentesis next. They removed a ½ liter of fluid from his abdomen area using a needle. They were not concerned with this fluid… it was normal body cavity fluid (just pooled a little more in dad). This happens with the type of surgery dad had.

Lastly, we met with the oncologist. She said that dad’s blood work came back looking good. She also took dad’s feeding tube out! We hopefully won’t have to go back to Mayo until his next appointment in July!

Prayers:

*Dad’s body continues to learn the new normal with eating/digestion.

*Dad is able to regulate blood sugar levels with insulin.
