Dale’s Story

Site created on September 22, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep a record of what's happening with Dale's diagnosis and treatment of a glioblastoma and to provide family and friends with updated information. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

The site was established two weeks after the tumor was discovered, and the first couple weeks of notes were inserted in brief form and then expanded as of October 20th, to add photos and import notes from the texts, emails, and Facebook posts from those days.

We hope to be able to use this not only for communication but also as a record of this unwelcome adventure.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Mary Arneson

The total eclipse of the sun on April 8th was one that Dale and I were planning to see. I did see the eclipse, while thinking of him.

It wasn't quite the experience that I had planned, though. We had avoided cruises for several reasons, but especially because of the risk of infections. And an infection swept through the ship just before and after the eclipse.  It was probably an E coli infection from contaminated buffet food at the resort hotel where the group stayed before boarding the ship, followed by further spread between the passengers.

I spent about three days sick in bed, getting out on deck to see the phase of totality, but not trying to get a lot of pictures. (Dale had taken all the eclipse photos I really needed anyway.)

Recovery has been slow, but I'm out in our garden today, glad to see many flowers coming up and eager to get my strength and endurance back to normal.
