Newest Update

Journal entry by Valerie Giedd

3/18-3/19
Lets start out with Daisy is OUT OF ICU!
She has a room in the general area of the hospital now, for pediatrics.
We went and stayed with her yesterday until earlier this evening
A lot has progressed, a lot is moving forward.
She had a tube in her nose for tube feeding (nutrients) which was removed earlier this morning, and that made her pretty excited, no more tubes running down her throat! She still however, has some oxygen which is being lowered by day - she's on 1 liter right now.
She's up and walking as she feels she can do so. She is doing wonderful with physical therapy, showing all these drs shes one amazing little girl.
She's able to eat and drink as she chooses now as well, though nothing is tasting normal to her right now, and very little here and there.
They are weaning her down from the pain medicine as well, and it appears like she's not having much issue with the lowering of them.

On Thursday she will have another surgery to remove an appendix stone, and hopefully the surgeries will be over after that -- we can hope !

She's got a little anxiety going on, given what she just went through it's completely understandable;
she doesn't like to be alone while she waits out the rest of her time in that hospital, we've got most days and nights figured out between all of us.

She has received many gifts from family and friends of things to help keep her busy, and she thanks everyone for all she has gotten!

She still has the JP drain, continuing to drain those pockets of fluid they discovered last Monday.
She's still on a blood thinner, and will remain so for 3 months following her leave from the hospital.

She likes to get out of her room and wander down to activity room, whether it's to do an activity, eat her lunch, or jus go for that little walk - she's anxious to be moving around.
In physical therapy today, they take her to a therapy gym and try to get her walking and get some of that muscle tone back... she walked across the gym, was asked if she wanted to walk back to her chair on her own and she did.
All in all, she's doing amazing, since day one.
There was rumor of her getting out at the end of this week, maybe next week, especially considering how well she is doing and progressing.
At this point we are preparing ourselves and schedules to make sure she comes home to the best care we can give, following a daily routine, the medications she will have to take regularly for a while and over all making sure she continues to get through all of this physically and emotionally.
We will be back up this weekend with her younger two brothers so they are able to see and visit her as well, so more will come this weekend for your reading!
Until then, keep her in your prayers - she's doing great, she's continuing to get better then ever!
