Newest Update

Journal entry by Jeanine Krier

Sorry that it is has been a long time since I posted an update. Locally, I talked to many of you and many have visited/ brought food/ helped with home modifications, which we are very grateful! I realized there are many people far away who would like to hear an update.

Curt has been home for 2 weeks and it has been a learning curve for both of us. Curt has at home services- nursing once a week, PT twice a week, OT once a week. I have to give him IV antibiotics 3 times a day, which may be the easiest part of the day. He had mastered the steps, but it is still hard for him. He tried to only do both flights once a day, but sometimes twice a day on the shorter run. I have to bring him everything- breakfast, lunch, dinner, meds and drinks. I also have do the stairs setup and move the walker around. In the house, he has been getting around via walker. I keep his wheelchair in the chair for appointments, but as I keep saying - that wheelchair may kill me. Need to talk to OT about other options. This week, Curt will get his stitches out and also have his first appointment with prosthetics.

Curt has mainly just been out of the house for doctor appointments, but Saturday a friend took him grill shopping and they had lunch on the patio. He brought a fancy grill and said it’s nice to buy something that isn’t medical equipment and be excited about it. The grill will be delivered next Monday. We are also going to do our damn it’s to get to the greyhound fundraiser next Saturday night.

Curt got permission to return to work next week, working from home. Doctor and therapy appointments will be a priority during the work day, so realistically it be about 3/4 time. He is looking forward to some sense of normality.

Last week, the kitchen/ front door floors were done and we brought the dogs home this past weekend. We brought Cisco home first and he was a bit confused, but settled in by the next morning. Paisley came the 2nd day and she didn’t miss a beat and was her normal, crazy self.
Next project up - once the pool is uncovered, hopefully this week.  We need to get railing installed  on the pool steps. At least the pool company that did the work last summer will be able to install the railing.

I’m doing ok, running my ass off because I have to do everything around the house. By the end of the work week, I’m dead! I need the weekend to have some extra time and take care of myself. I’m down about 10 lbs from all the stress, but at least I’m sleeping much better. Curt is learning some household tasks with OT, so he may be able to help a bit.

Again- really grateful for everyone who has helped, even in small ways, such as checking in. It’s fun to see you all, but wish it was under better circumstances. I’ll check back in with you all in a few weeks.
