This update is a dreaded one, and one that I may not finish. But as Crista would say, ‘get it done, mom’.

Crista has seen a decline in her functional status in terms of aphasia and paresis in the past few weeks.  Just small little changes in everyday functions.  Word finding more difficult, walking a bit more uneasy.

Crista’s scans and MRIs that were done during stay in Woodwinds and Southdale have been reviewed by her most trusted Doctors and the Brain Tumor Conference from the University.

There are two findings that are of concern.

•  First, there is a worsening of the intracranial bleed that her doctors have been watching very closely over the past five months.  This bleed is the cause of the terrible headaches that Crista experiences daily. 

•  Second, there is a new spot (liaison) developing on the right side of Crista’s brain. Crista’s doctors have compared scans and MRIs from January, April and now May and have determined that the changes that they are seeing represent cancer progression. 

Crista has been acutely aware that the type of cancer that has invaded her beautiful brain has no cure currently but has continued to live life to the fullest.  The next few days will be spent weighing options. 

Crista, as always, is surrounded with the unending love of her two sons, Alex and Rs, and the entire Alexander crew.
