Journal entry by Tiffany Sanchez

Chases journey started when he was 6 months old. We began to notice how sickly he was becoming and we were always in the hospital with RSV and pneumonia. He was diagnosed with acute chronic asthma at 9 months old. That was only the beginning of his battle. Chase had some developmental delays like he didnt walk until he was 2, he is delayed with his speech and fine and gross motor skills. We went for the first 3 years of his life with the asthma diagnosis and seen so many specialist I have lost count.  Chase only become more sick as the time went on and out admits to the hospital just kept growing. We had been to knoxville, Nashville, and Atlanta seeing lung drs to help us understand what was going on. All they coud tell us was that they are out of options and we need to go somewhere else. The doors finally opened for Chase to receive a full Aero digestive work up at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota when he was 3. We have made some great improvements since starting with our team at Mayo but Chase has also gained several other issues. It turns oit he never had asthma so he had beem treated with an excessive amount of steriods his first 3 years of life that it had made him adrenal insufficiency.  His lungs were in horrible shape so they got him on a high dose action plan and a clearance vest to help shake up the mucus and constant infection that was sitting on his lungs.  His lungs had severe damage done to them from not using the proper meds. Today he still struggles with pneumonias and constant respiratory infections and we go go mayo clinic every 3 months. They have also discovered he has some severe GI issues and will require several surgeries over the next few months to get things taken care of. He has also beeb diagnosed with epilepsy and has seizures daily. In July of this year they found a 2.9cm cyst sitting directly on his cerebellum in his brain. The neurosurgeon at Mayo stated that its intirely to risky to remove and they cant do surgery on it. We are currently awaiting a second opinion at Boston Childrens center for the cyst on his brain. He has a very unsteady gait and falls alot. He also has speech and swallow issues and severe body tremors that could be caused by the cyst placing to much pressure on his cerebellum.    Chase is a fighter in every aspect. His strong faith amazes me daily. Hes always telling us that everything will be okay and nothing ever brings him down. He is our super hero💙
