Dear family and friends,

Thank you for all of your prayers and support.

Corey has been diagnosed with Blastomycosis, which is a fungal infection.  It has attacked his entire body but most pressing at this point is his lungs.

Corey has been feeling sick since labor day, after a weekend of camping.
He went through multiple tests and many doctors visits. They originally thought it was Lymes due to the symptoms, but he did not test positive for it but doctors started him on antibiotics in case the test was incorrect.  After a week his symptoms has gotten worse and he was unable to walk unassisted at this point.  At this point we went to see another doctor and they ordered ALOT of tests and chest xray.  He was diagnosed with pneumonia and what looked like it could be a possible rheumatically related flare up.  He was put on a pretty hefty dose of predisone and after week on a strong antibiotic and steroid he was still unable to walk and could hardly breathe so he felt worse than he had to begin with.  We then took him back to the doctor again still unable to walk or breathe.  They did a CT scan of his chest on Wednesday 10/2 and called immediately that they saw something abnormal and needed to come in for procedure to get a better look the next day.  When we arrived his oxygen levels were to low to do the full procedure and we were told he would not be going home that day.  They did a shorter procedure than planned but that didn't go well with his oxygen levels and then admitted him to the ICU on a ventilator with the plan to keep him for a couple of days on that and then maybe a couple of days in regular hospital and then go home.  He was not doing very well and they were trying to figure out what was causing his illness.  The wonderful doctors at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center determined it was this rare fungus that was causing all of his issues.  Plans quickly changed and we are now planning possible weeks in the ICU on the ventilator completely sedated and medically paralyzed to allow his body to fight this off with the help of some very strong anti-fungal meds.  He has a very long road ahead of him.  His Dad, Step Mom, and Grandmother from Texas were able to fly up to be with him to get him through this tough patch.  At this point we don't really have any guarantees on how long with this take to get him well we are in this for the long haul.  We are all praying, trying to stay positive that his body will fight this off so he can get back to enjoying a long life.  We will update as we know more and what his status is.  We ask that you please keep sending your prayers and strength for him, we know he can feel it.
