Cordelia’s Story

Site created on February 4, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. Cordelia was hospitalized in January 2020 with severe liver failure and kidney malfunction. She was able to return to her home in Norway, ME in Mid February where she was aided in recovery and her family sought treatment. She received good care in Maine, but several appointments were difficult due to COVID-19. It was decided that Cordelia would receive treatment- including a liver transplant- at the University of Minnesota. In late May, Cordelia moved to Minneapolis and is living with good friends there. Due to resettlement, her new insurance (and therefore medical treatment) were delayed until July 1. She is currently working with the liver team at the U of MN, setting up medical care all around, and receiving treatment for complications from kidney malfunction that have left her with large wounds that require daily treatment.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Elinor Strandskov

I wish that I were better at updating our journal on the good days. Or even just on the mundane days. But people only want to read about drama anyway, right? Well, unfortunately, we have had some!

Yesterday afternoon Cordelia had a fall in the bathroom. There was quite a bit of blood coming from a head wound that Suzanne and I could not see. I took her to the ER at the UofM (Suzanne definitely got the short end of stick - cleanup) and they brought her in immediately. She had to have some stitches, and looks quite a bit worse for wear, but her cat scan was clear and her cognitive abilities are no worse than normal ( ;p hey, I am her little sister- I have to tease sometimes!).

As I told Bea this morning, “This sucks. It is just sucky, and we don’t have to find a bright side, it just is the suckiest to have Mama in the hospital on her birthday.”

Cordelia will almost certainly be discharged in the morning (Saturday). Our Easter 2021 may look different than we had planned, but we will still celebrate the promise of resurrection that it represents.
