Newest Update

Journal entry by Cory Mead

Greetings all! We hope that summer is treating all of you well! We just wanted to provide a quick update on Mom's progress over the last few weeks.

She is continuing to get her Immunotherapy (Keytruda) infusions every three weeks. Her next infusion is scheduled for next Wednesday, August 3rd. Blood work and a quick visit with her oncologist precedes each infusion. The bloodwork at her last infusion (a couple weeks ago) indicated that her white and red blood cell counts were low, so her immunity continues to also be low. Mom and Dad are still not really spending much time in larger groups of people as a result of this. The side effects of the Keytruda injections and lasting side effects from chemotherapy and radiation continue to be present. The primary ones are being achy and fatigued, and as a result of this, she continues to require quite a bit of rest on a daily basis.

Mom also has osteoporosis as a result of the immunotherapy. She has the two fractures in her back and will be following up with an orthopedic surgeon next week. She continues to walk a decent amount, but the back pain increases the longer she walks. She is now taking two shorter walks a day. Walking continues to be therapeutic for her :)

A couple weeks ago, Mom and Dad took a day trip to one of their favorite places, Mackinac Island. Unfortunately, their trip to the island wasn't what they had envisioned as Mom ended up at their urgent care facility due to cellulitis in her foot. She needed to take eight antibiotics a day for eight days to fight the infection. Fortunately, the antibiotics did their job and she able to avoid an extended stay in the hospital.

She continues to do well in physical therapy. The reason she's been having physical therapy is reduce the chances of getting lymphedema due to the amount of lymph nodes that had to be removed during her surgery. The exercises focus on her right arm and shoulder.

Despite her side effects and challenges along the way, Mom continues to remain upbeat and positive. She is our hero that is CANCER FREE and is doing absolutely everything she can to keep it away.  Thanks again for all of your continued prayers!
