December 19, 2021 Update

Remember on the December 5th update I indicated Connie would be having the stints in her liver replaced on the 6th. That was done and we are now down to just one bile duct with a stint instead of two. The liver is improving so that is good news. While prepping for the procedure, the anesthesiologist thought something was not right with the fluid around the right lung and possibly the heart. An ECHO was done and the doctors discovered vegetation “infection” growing on the values of the heart so they were not properly closing.

On December 9th, Connie had a procedure done where the doctors inserted a device in a vein and went into the heart and removed the vegetation. Connie will now need 6 weeks of antibiotics once a day through an IV. This process will take place in Fergus Falls at the hospital.

Connie got home on December 10th. All was well until she suffered a seizure on Saturday evening which put her back in the hospital. Seizures are common in patients with her type of cancer. The good news is that there is a system friendly medication which will still allow for her to stay on the chemo pills she is taking. Once she was started on the anti-seizure medication, there has been no more seizures. She was monitored for 24 hours with around 30 different wires conned to her head to read brain activity and no seizures were detected. About the only side effect of the medication is she will be a little more tired until the body fully adjusts to the medication.

Connie got home on December 16th and is spending her time resting and she gets out each day to go into town for her antibiotic IV treatment.

We wish all of you a very Happy Holidays
