Journal entry by Debbie Corum

Today was the first day in five weeks that I really truly felt I could breathe. On May 12, just prior to going in for a knee replacement, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. As many of you know who have taken this "C" journey before me, the trip involves lots of test and even more patience waiting the results. After many tests, including CT Scans and a lung biopsy, and following a surgery this past Friday to remove the lower lobe in my right lung, the doctors have just verified that the cancer was caught early, there is no cancer in the lymph nodes that were also removed, and that I will require no further treatment.

Some of you have been part of this month-long journey with us and some of you are just learning of this. To everyone, I express my deepest love for your support, however, it may have been given. It's been an interesting time to get sick in the world of COVID-19, as I have had to be separated from many of the people who are often there to lift me up. But, I have felt the love and prayers from afar, and they have been working.

I was hoping to be back home by now but have had a few complications, which kept me in the hospital a little longer and resulted in me needing to stay closer to the hospital once I was released. I am hoping that I will be able to return to Cedar City, my home, tomorrow.

In the meantime, I am surrounded by my children and three of my grandchildren and my every need is being cared for. I am sure there are many lessons to be learned from this experience and I am already learning so many. But one that is prevalent is the healing power when people come together in mind and spirit and work for good and healing. I haven't even touched on the protests and riots that are going on in the world as I fight my own little battle, but I know that the lessons I have learned individually can be put in place to heal our land. We just have to come together with unity, love, faith, hope, and peace.
May peace surround you today as is has me and my family.
