Colleen’s Story

Site created on May 21, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. Colleen was hit from behind by a semi on May 20 outside of Ray just East of our family farm.  She sustained multiple complicated injuries and is in Fargo at Sanford. We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Brittany Bergstrom

Hi All! I thought everyone could use a good update amidst the craziness that is going on in our world at the moment. Last week (March 17), mom and dad were in Fargo for a neuro follow-up appointment. Images showed that the bone in her neck has fully healed - yahoo! Mom has been complete with physical therapy for a few months, but she is to continue doing exercises on her neck with very slight movements up and down and right to left. In all, she has lost about 40% of her neck range of motion, which she will never regain. This is, of course, disappointing and has come with challenges, but it really hasn't slowed her down. She is cleared to drive on highway, but only if and when mom feels safe enough with her ability to see and check for side traffic. Although she has been driving in Ray for a while, I know she is going a bit stir crazy at home and we hope she will return to her driving days, but no one is in a rush. The doctor also told them  household cleaning and vacuuming should be done in small intervals to build up her endurance...and that dad can help with all of that so now he can't try to get out of it! Ha ha. This appointment was originally supposed to be with Dr. Baker, the doctor who performed mom's surgery, but he is no longer with Sanford. Both my mom and dad were happy with the new doctor, saying he was very thorough and seemed to know his stuff. In the words of mom, all in all it was the best news she could have gotten and we are all so very thankful, grateful and blessed!

Words truly cannot adequately describe how thankful our entire family is for all of your love, support, and prayers throughout the last 10 months. You have no idea how much those well wishes, "likes" and "hearts" and prayers mean to a family until you're the one going through a hardship like this. When I see my mom, I have no doubt she is a walking miracle and what she has accomplished following the accident is a product of prayer, determination and hard work. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, and I truly hope we have nothing further to update you all on ;)
