Colin Michel Tibbetts

8.20.1982 - 9.9.2022

Colin left the world doing what he loved best, riding his bike and surrounded by the love of his family. He met Julia in 2004 and they welcomed their first child Alice in 2005. They married and bought a house in 2007 welcoming their beloved dogs, Shadow & Triton shortly after. In 2016 their second child Eliot was born.

Colin had a strong headed stubborn streak, sensitive heart, and family was the most important thing to him. He worked tirelessly over the last 6 months of his life with family therapy and being present for his kids. He loved his kids more than anything and showed up to every school meeting and soccer practice. He was a huge music fan, dork for science and history, and WWE wrestling die hard. He had a passion for BMX bikes building and repaired many over the years. He custom built computers and loved figuring out tech as well as curating an extensive collection of TV shows and movies.

Colin was born to Jennifer Tibbetts and raised by her as a single mom in Sioux Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School. He had fond memories of Lief Erikson as a kid and returned there for family night in June, excited to share with his kids and niblings. He grew up in hard situations with many people who loved him and offered him brief glances of possibilities that he worked towards. He worked extremely hard to live in a healthy way despite the mental health and systematic issues he faced. While he and his mom had a strained relationship, she instilled within him fierce independence and love. He loved working as a cook from Fryn Pan to Ode to Food and most recently JL Beers. The summer of 2021 he focused on finding his dad after over a decade of Julia's encouragement. He connected with him, which brought him great healing in his own parenting role. That year, he also spent time reconnecting and figuring out relationships where his heart and compassion offered the refuge he sought until spring of 2022 when he began family therapy.

August of 2022 he turned 40 and he called the month a dream come true. He was so happy to be home with his kids and Julia. Sunday, the day before his accident, was filled with the simple joys of yardwork, lounging in the backyard hammocks & pool, enjoying the sunshine, and surrounded by kids and dogs. The day he was hit by a car, he was riding to work after therapy. His dedication to his family and his job were a testament to his strength of perseverance.

He is preceded in death by his Uncle Joe, Grandma Jane, Grandpa KayDon Tibbetts, the mother of his heart, Julia's mom Gerrie Grauf, and his niece Ryver Grauf.

He is survived by his children Ailis and Eliot, and their mother Julia Tasuil who were his home and heart.

His mother Jennifer Tibbetts, Uncle Ted (Carla) Tibbetts, Aunt Katie Tibbetts, dad Glenn Kenyon, cousins and many more who loved him in the Tibbetts family, Rensch family, Grauf family, and Kenyon family, as well as friends and coworkers.
