Newest Update

Journal entry by Bryana Snyder

Cole had his second set of post treatment scans yesterday.  His last ones were in October after finishing his chemo at the end of September.  To say I haven’t been anxious would be a lie!  Yesterday we got to RMCC at 8 to get an IV in so he could have 1 hour of pre scan fluids.  This was our first needle poke since his port was removed in October.  He was also very anxious.  With nitrous gas, his headphones, his iPad, and of course amazing nurses and Wendy he got it done!

The scans don’t scare him at all.  He hoped up on the table and put his arms over his head ready for his CT.  The guy was impressed and said he was a pro.  He then remembered he scanned his the last time.  It was kind of cute to see Cole try and hold his breath when the machine told him to.  He had great effort but he was still breathing through his nose 😊

The scans take less than 20 minutes.  We had to make a quick stop at the vending machine before we headed back up to the 4th floor to finish 2 more hours of post scan fluids.  Cole likes his snacks! He already had 2 snacks and a chocolate milk waiting for him in his room as we caught the snack cart right before we went to his scan.  Cole wasted no time in eating a bag of sour watermelon gummies and sun chips at the same time.  Mike built a decent sized Star Wars Lego set for Cole while we waited for his fluids.  This is Cole’s new obsession! Star Wars everything! Also his Make a Wish theme. To see the storm troupers at Disney! We all can’t wait for that next winter!

We also met with his oncologist and talked about how he has been doing, his lab work, and future plans for follow up.  We let his Dr. know he has been doing great and once his port was removed he was back to himself! Cole even said he is normal again and felt good once that was removed.  Cole’s labs continue to look good as well which means he is all finished taking his weekend antibiotic! He was very excited for this news.  He still takes a daily blood pressure medicine as his body still is trying to compensate for only having one kidney.  He has his nephrology follow up in May for that.  The plan going forward is to do abdominal ultrasounds and chest X-rays every 3 months with another chest, abdomen, pelvis CT at the 1 year mark.  This is all if scans come back clear/stable. The results were still in process when we talked with his Dr. but he felt they looked good.  Cole got to help fill the mailboxes and of course pick out a Lego set or two before we left. We then headed down to see my work crew as Cole loves getting to see them and vice versa.  He loaded up on lots of sugar from his buddy Trisha and then we were off for a late lunch at McDonald’s, his choice for all the hard work he had to do.  It was a long day but we all made it through.

Today I think I looked at my phone every 15-20 minutes to see if his results were back yet.  I gave myself a stress headache! At 4:55 they were in.  His scans are all clear!!! I know it will take a while, probably a year or so before I stop being so worried but ugh it is scary and stressful waiting to read those words- stable, no metastasis! Cole told me that he knew the cancer was all gone still and he wasn’t worried.  I wish I could be that sure.  Mike of course wasn’t worried like I was either.  I am lucky to have such a strong, supportive husband and father to our kids ( I don’t tell him this enough!

Thank you all for the continued love, support, and prayers.  We couldn’t do it without you all!
