Newest Update

Journal entry by Spencer Roach

One year ago, January 15, is the day our lives changed. Sorry I haven’t updated lately.

Bill continued occupational, speech, and physical therapy with Madonna’s excellent out patient therapists until November, when he plateaued. They will reassess again sometime soon, to see if he can get back into the program.

Physically, he is doing well. Good friends and family take him to hit tennis balls, watch high school, Husker or Creighton basketball, workouts at the gym, lunch dates, movies, visits to talk about the Husker recruits, ping pong matches, and phone calls.

While all that sounds like a lot, he still has hours upon hours just staying at home and working on his iPad therapy. Not being able to drive is hard. Not teaching tennis lessons is hard. Having no independence is hard.  Getting used to the new normal is hard.

An anoxic brain injury is hard.

It’s a different life. Certainly not the one we expected and prepared for. Thankfully, Bill is usually happy and grateful.  And he’s here.

Again, I want to thank everyone who has continued to show up. He loves spending time with people. I know it’s not easy. He’s a different Bill, but in a lot of ways he’s the same. And trust me when I tell you, he is putting in the work. He desperately wants to get better.

Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to flood the heavens with prayers for Bill’s brain to heal.

♥️Brenda
