Hello Dear Friends,

We have been having major difficulties posting to the Wordpress site.  So I  wanted to check in with you, as we may or may not be able to iron out those difficulties.
Thank you to those of you who have signed on.

Last fall, around this time, I submitted a proposal to our local arts center - The Hoffman Center for the Arts, to produce a show called “Visual Eclipse”.  That proposal was accepted, and we were scheduled for April 2019.  The show included 4 artists, me, Claudia, Lola Sorensen and Carol Ferris.

Early 2019, some of our lives were eclipsed.  Claudia had a colon cancer tumor, and serious heart problems, and Lola’s younger brother was beginning the battle with a terminal diagnosis.

Although we were still in our studios, and making work for this show, there came a point where it was just not viable for this show to get produced in that timeline.

Mary Roberts, the gallery coordinator understood this and gave us an out for that April slot.

We each and all dealt with all the procedures and processes that needed to happen and the show was cancelled.

Now, here we are a year later. And  I am proposing a new show with the addition of Barbara Temple Ayres, a ceramic artist, to have an exhibition in 2020 called “Eclipse and Other Shadows”.  We have some work from last years’ process, but also some new insights into Other Shadows as well.

I am inspired.  And hoping the Hoffman will grant us a new venue in 2020.

On another note, creating a Blog has driven me back into my studio and shop.  Compared with writing, my media of choice looks like a reprieve.

I’m telling you, I have a new appreciation for my writing friends and the writer’s block.

Andrea continues to inspire me with everything she writes – letters, essays, poems, articles.  However she writes, that is how I have always, for so many years, used as a model for anything that I write.

But writing, like all art, requires practice and a lot of it.  So I’m contemplating the economy of my time and energy and where I want to invest.

So writing for me will be a hobby, not an aspiration.

FYI we are good, Claudia and I.  Her health issues are coming into normalcy for which we are so grateful.

And I am releasing some of the anxiety that got built up being cast into the caregiving role.

We relish more and more days that do not have any appointments and that allow us to indulge in our art, reading, walks, and meditation time.

We know, of course, how much our world is suffering, and our environment is degrading.  We’re following the lead of our children. What incredible beings they are. It is unimaginable that they are the force of change while we, the hippies of the 60’s and 70’s couldn’t make it happen.

That may be for another conversation.
