Hello family & friends,
we wanted to make sure family was in the loop before we updated caringbridge this week.
First off, Gramma is home & doing well today, but unfortunately the beginning of the week started off on the wrong foot. Claudia's oxygen got really low and we decided to call an ambulance late Monday night. She had a little hospital retreat through this afternoon (Friday)- we are so glad to have her home. She was on forced oxygen for a day and has since weaned back down to her standard of 2.0 liters.
What happened is a big cycle- she was taken off of one chemo weeks ago to see if her body would tolerate it as well, and unfortunately it didn't. Fluid started filling in her lung cavity which put a lot of strain on her lungs. Her breathing became more shallow, she lost her appetite, and was going into the hospital once a week to be treated for the fluid and discomfort. All of this contributed to her body having a tough time- including her heart. Lots of tests were done during her stay. Nothing new was found, her body just needed a nice rest. After her few days inpatient- we're happy to report she really is doing better. Her oxygen stats are higher than we've seen in a long time and she has a smile on her face.
In true Claudia fashion, every single nurse and aide she had fell in love with her and thought she was "just the cutest". She kept telling the nurses to go rest, take a break... She even tried to get them to eat by asking if they wanted her to order anything for them from her cafeteria menu! While she was there she really enjoyed cable TV and chocolate ice cream.
Now that she is home, feel free to call her home telephone # if you'd like to personally chat with her.
Casey recently connected her land-line at our house so the home phone is back! (Yes, I still need to change the answering machine...)
She really gave us a scare this week. But really, if there's anything we should have learned by now it's that Gramma is superwoman & God answers prayers.
lots of love from team Gma.

Also, her Christmas card is super late, but coming!
