Clarene’s Story

Site created on December 4, 2018

Grandma Clarene’s story started in early November with family noticing she just didn’t have the spunk, energy, or drive she once had. This isn’t the typical story of noticing anything particular, no signs of danger, and no real worry to be had other than maybe grandma had finally, do we dare say, starting to act her age? Our fashionista, on the run, taking care of others, and always devoting her time to those in need had finally slowed down.

Grandma Clarene finally went to the doctor on Tuesday, November 20th for a well check. She found out that her potassium was extremely low, her heart not quite in rhythm, elevated blood pressure, and liver enzymes not normal. This lead the doctor to schedule an ultrasound of the abdomen on Wednesday, November 21st. Grandma Clarene then spent Thanksgiving Day resting and enjoying family. On Friday, November 23rd a CT Scan was completed, and masses were found on her liver which one being the size of 18 by 15 by 12 CMA.  An ultrasound guided liver biopsy was then completed on Thursday, Nov. 29th and the results followed by the next day. On Friday, November 30th, Clarene had an appointment and chest x-ray with her primary doctor. The x-ray indicated spots on her lungs. On the night of Friday, November 30th, the liver biopsy report came in and Grandma Clarene was diagnosed with Metastatic Large Cell Neuroendocrin Carcinoma lung cancer. Grandma Clarene and her entire family appreciate your prayers, support, and words of hope and encouragement during this journey.

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. -Isaiah 40:20
